MSI Wind

MSI Wind
10-inch screen, long battery life and comfortable keypad, sounds good but at what price?

Price
Taiwan’’s MSI (Micro-Star International) plans to sell them for around £300 in the UK, Europe, US starting from July. The price of the laptop puts it close to the top of the small screen laptops but given the screen is bigger than some of its competitors and the RAM is 1gb the MSI Wind comes out a fair price.

Features
MSI Wind will come in a variety of colours bundled with Microsoft Windows XP, the 1.6GHz Intel Atom microprocessor, 80GB hard disk drive (HDD) and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.

It will be interesting to see the price of a linux version of the laptop

Acer One

Known as the Acer One, as you can see from the above picture it brings a fresh new look to the linux laptop scene, according to Acer it’’s “not a low-cost notebook” and on first impressions looking at the laptop I would agree.

The One is packed with processor and memory power boasting a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor; 512MB of 533MHz DDR 2 memory with a single SO-Dimm slot ; 1024 x 600, 262,000-colour LED-backlit display, 8.9in screen and a 0.3- mega pixel webcam.

Acer’’s One: The Price?

Like many other small laptops the One comes with a choice of either Linux or XP Home. The Linux version is fitted with 8GB of solid-state storage, while the alternative XP version comes with a 80GB hard drive along with a higher price and a battery life which is lower.

The One uses Intel’’s 945GSE chipset, HD audio on board and 3D graphics support. 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and 10/100Mb/s Ethernet , 3 USB 2.0 ports, 3.5mm audio sockets and VGA.

Slick

One of the plus points to the laptop is that it comes with a memory card reader which is great to boast storage capacity.
